It Started with One Man, One Truck, and a Vision

20 years later, Pro-Craft is proud to serve with more than 200 employees in facilities totaling 55,000 square feet and a reputation second to none

Looking back, Tim McFayden can’t help being a little amazed and, as he’d say, very humbled by the growth of Pro-Craft.

He launched the company in 2003 out of the garage in his house with one truck, a $350,000 bonding capacity and a goal: “I would have been happy to have five trucks and 10 employees,” he laughs. “Our business quickly expanded and within three years we more than exceeded what we had hoped for.”

Specializing in Complex and Sophisticated Construction Projects
Today, Pro-Craft is 200-plus employees strong with a fleet of heavy equipment and 55,000 square feet of facility space in two locations. And, the company now maintains a bonding capacity in excess of $100 million. Pro-Craft has earned a reputation as the go-to contractor for the most complex and sophisticated plumbing, underground utilities and fire protection projects in Southern California.

From the start, the company had a stated mission to provide the highest quality of service and craftsmanship delivered with the values of honesty, integrity and professionalism. Tim credits this founding philosophy for the success and longevity of the business. “We make sure our clients know we care about them,” he says. “We stand up to our principles. We do what we say we’re going to do.”

Rooted in Family
Tim is the first to say he couldn’t have made it alone. From the start, his wife Susan managed the office with daughter Jillian. They continue to serve as CFO and VP of Human Resources. Soon after, son Chris joined the growing company after graduating from the apprenticeship program. All these years later, Chris has played a vital leadership role, spearheading operational excellence initiatives and continuous innovation. He progressed from journeyman to project manager and now serves as President and CEO, taking over for Tim in 2023. Tim still serves as Chairman of the Board, while son Nick joined the company in 2017 and serves as the Vice President of Business Development.

No matter how much the company has grown, Pro-Craft has always been a family business. And when they say “family” they mean not just the McFayden family but the entire family of employees. Pro-Craft is honored to be a leading sponsor in the plumbing apprenticeship program and fosters a culture for personal development and career growth for its people. “My trade has always been good to my family,” explains Tim. “When I was young, someone took me under his wing. I was taught at a young age to give back, teach people, and mentor people.”

Always Moving Forward
When you visit the Pro-Craft facilities, you get insight into this innovative operation. From the state-of-art design studio to the onsite fabrication of parts and systems for installation, Pro-Craft is not what you expect when you think “plumbing.” The company is known for its ability to mobilize quickly and efficiently – what they call “Pro-Craft Urgency” – to meet the needs of its General Contractor, owner/developer and public stakeholder clients.

Pro-Craft has consistently grown year after year—growth Tim attributes to the leadership of Chris, who is strongly rooted in tradition while keeping a focus on the future. “My dad always taught me we should never rest on our laurels,” says Chris. “We’re proud of what we’ve accomplished and our track record of excellence, but Pro-Craft is about moving forward, always striving to improve and be the best at what we do for our clients, the community and our employees.”
