It’s been an arduous eight-year journey for a local injured U.S. Army Green Beret. His journey is inspirational and nothing short of amazing. This is his story and how Pro-Craft came to play a small role in helping this injured warrior on the road to recovery.
In 2014, Sergeant First Class Joe Lowrey sustained a gunshot wound to the head during a combat tour in Afghanistan. It was Lowrey’s third tour of duty, and it occurred just after he and his wife welcomed their fourth child.
A Small Chance of Survival
Doctors gave him a very small chance of survival. But against all odds, and after several weeks at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, SFC Lowrey miraculously awoke from his coma. Ahead for him was a long road of painful recovery and rehabilitation.
The injury left Lowrey without the use of the left side of his body and with permanent damage to his short-term memory. Despite these challenges, Lowrey forged ahead in his recovery and healing and is now actively working towards walking on his own once again.
He Still Had the Strength to Give Back
During his journey, SFC Lowrey saw a need to assist other veterans like himself. He co-founded a non-profit foundation geared at helping veterans find services, employment, and other opportunities to help them thrive after their service ended. The work SFC Lowrey has accomplished through his foundation is an inspiration to all.
When Homes for Wounded Warriors learned about SFC Lowrey and his outreach to others, they selected him as a perfect candidate for a home designed and built to meet his specific needs. To accomplish this goal, Homes for Wounded Warriors began looking for local builders to partner with them, and Pro-Craft was honored to join the effort. Alongside several other companies and partners, Pro-Craft participated in building the Rancho Cucamonga home by donating the plumbing needed for the entire house.
Cutting the Red Ribbon
On September 29th, 2022, SFC Lowrey and his family cut the red ribbon and received the keys to their new, injury-specific, mortgage-free home. Pro-Craft is proud to have been a part of the effort that now provides Lowery and his family independence and comfort.
